Developer Mojang has confirmed this week that a novel based on popular franchise Minecraft is currently in the works, with a working title Minecraft: The Island revealed.
Max Brooks, the author of post-apocalyptic zombie novel World War Z, will put words to paper for the novel, with no release window set in stone at this time.
“I’ve peeked at an early draft and it’s entirely amazing, just as we knew it would be, said Mojang’s Marsh Davies. “Think cuboid Robinson Crusoe, but madder: a hero stranded in an unfamiliar land, with unfamiliar rules, learning to survive against tremendous odds.”
It’s unknown at this time if the novel will have any connection with the Minecraft feature film set to release sometime in 2019. Publishing will be handled by Del Rey, who are a subsidiary of popular publisher Penguin Random House.
Ever since Microsoft acquired the Minecraft brand in September last year for $2.5bn, the publisher has pushed the brand outside the comfort zone of regular gaming.
The Minecraft: Education Edition which releases this November has received praise from the gaming industry, directly helping teachers to keep students on an entertaining learning curve as they grow older.
