Ahead of its much-anticipated launch later this month, Electronic Arts and DICE deemed it the perfect time to share the first gameplay of the single-player mode for Battlefield 1.

With the focus now on the Great War and not the modern setting we’ve all grown accustomed too, DICE got creative and really brought a more dramatic sense to the theater of war.

The 12-minutes of gameplay shown below is from the shooter’s prologue, and while it doesn’t feature characters you’ll see in the five War Stories the developer has promised with the final game, it still has the action-packed set-pieces and immersive nature you would expect.

In Battlefield 1 you’ll experience a series of what we call War Stories: personal stories focusing on different protagonists with unique backgrounds and skills. While our characters are at war, the stories in Battlefield 1 are personal. They’re about people rather than history or battles.

You won’t have to wait long as Battlefield 1 launches worldwide on October 21st for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
