PlayStation Network Hacked by DDOSers, Services Offline [UPDATE]

The PlayStation Network is Currently Down, No Maintenance Scheduled

UPDATE

According to John Smeadly, President of Sony Online Entertainment, the clean up after the DDOS attack is ongoing and they have nearly rectified the issue completely. Online play should be back for some, if not you shouldn’t have to wait much longer.

Original Story

If you were hoping for some casual gaming on this beautiful Sunday think again, well that’s if you’re a PlayStation user. Unfortunately the PlayStation Network has been hacked and at the moment is down, following a supposed DDOS attack.

The online service is down at the time of writing, with a group by the name Lizard Squad(their Twitter account) taking responsibility for the attack. Blizzard’s Battle.net servers, Riot’s League of Legends and Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile have also fallen victim to attacks.

The situation is ongoing and the PSN outage has nothing to do with the maintenance scheduled for this Monday, with staff working to get the services back up and running.
